How to rotate pages in a PDF
- Open the PDF. Each page is shown as it currently opens in a PDF reader. In the example, page 4 was scanned sideways.
- Rotate what needs turning. Use the buttons under a page to turn it 90 degrees left or right. A yellow badge shows the new angle.
- Or rotate many pages at once. The panel turns all pages left, right or 180 degrees, turns every even page 180 degrees (for double-sided scans where every back page came out upside down), or turns wide pages upright.
- Save. The tool writes the new rotation into the file, then reads the saved PDF back and lists the rotation of each page so you can confirm it.
Why rotation needs to be saved
Most PDF viewers let you rotate the view, but that only changes how the page looks on your screen at that moment. Send the file to someone else and it opens sideways again. This tool changes the page's own rotation setting, which every reader respects.
When it helps
- Phone and scanner scans where some pages came out sideways or upside down.
- Landscape tables inside a portrait report that should be readable without turning your head.
- Double-sided scans where every second page is upside down.
- Before printing or merging, so the final document is consistent.
Rotate or organize?
Use this page when the pages are all there and in the right order, and only some of them face the wrong way. Because nothing else changes, the tool can update your original document instead of rebuilding it, which is what keeps fillable fields and the bookmark panel working. If you also need to delete blank pages or move pages around, use Organize pages, which rotates too but builds a new file.
Limits and what to expect
- Rotation is lossless. The page content is not re-drawn, so text, images and quality are unchanged.
- The original document is updated in place, which keeps fillable form fields, links and bookmarks.
- Rotation works in steps of 90 degrees. Slightly skewed scans (a few degrees off) need a scanner app with deskew.
- To delete or reorder pages at the same time, use Organize pages.
